Our Beliefs

OUR MISSION
Together with Jesus, we’re all about loving one another just like He commanded us (John 13:34-35). We want to live out that love by spending real time together—studying God’s Word, sharing meals, praying, and doing life side by side like the early church in Acts 2. We love being a “church family,” a place where everyone belongs, is cared for, and encouraged to grow in faith. Through this love, we hope to show the world Jesus in a way they can see and experience for themselves.

OUR IDENTITY AND FELLOWSHIP
Calvary Chapel Juneau has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of doctrinal differences that have led to division within the Body of Christ. We seek to maintain the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3) by focusing on the essentials of the faith while showing grace in secondary matters.

THE SCRIPTURES
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God, fully without error in the original manuscripts (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). The Bible is the final and supreme authority for faith and practice, and it supersedes any earthly law contrary to it. We embrace the expository, verse-by-verse teaching of the Word, allowing it to interpret itself under the illumination of the Holy Spirit (John 16:13). While we primarily reference the New King James Version for clarity and reverence, we recognize the value of modern translations that aid in communicating God’s truth.

Doctrine refers to the entire body of essential theological truths rooted in Scripture, encompassing the significance of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. It goes beyond mere historical facts to express the theological foundation of our faith (1 Timothy 1:10; 4:16).

GOD

We believe in one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—equal in power and glory, who created, upholds, and governs all things (Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19-20; John 10:30).

  • God the Father is an infinite, eternal, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. He mercifully concerns Himself with mankind, hears and answers prayer, and saves all who come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ (Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalm 90:2; John 3:16).

  • God the Son, Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died as a substitutionary atonement for sins, bodily resurrected, ascended into heaven, intercedes for His people, and will return visibly in power and glory (Isaiah 7:14; John 1:1-2; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Revelation 1:8).

  • God the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment; regenerate, sanctify, and empower believers for ministry; and indwells every believer as an abiding helper and guide (John 16:8-11; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:26).

We affirm the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and the exercise of all biblical gifts according to 1 Corinthians 12–14, including the laying on of hands for the baptism of the Spirit, ordination, and healing.

MAN

All people are sinners by nature and choice, under condemnation. God saves and regenerates those who repent and confess Jesus Christ as Lord by the work of the Holy Spirit (Romans 3:23; Acts 8:15-17).

SALVATION

Salvation is the redemption of the whole person offered freely to all who submit to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus’ blood obtained eternal redemption for believers. Salvation happens instantly by grace through faith and continues throughout life as believers grow in sanctification, culminating in glorification with resurrected bodies for eternity (Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 9:12).

THE CHURCH

The universal church is the spiritual Body of Christ, with Christ as Head and all born-again believers as members (1 Corinthians 12:12-13). We believe in one body made up of diverse members from every nation and walk of life, called to unity, love, and mutual care (1 Corinthians 12:24-26).

The local church is autonomous and governed by biblically qualified elders and deacons (Acts 20:28; 1 Timothy 3). It exists to worship God, disciple believers through the teaching of Scripture, observe baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and evangelize the lost (Matthew 28:19-20).

BAPTISM AND THE LORD'S SUPPER

We practice believer’s baptism by immersion as a public testimony of new life in Christ (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-4). The Lord’s Supper is a memorial of Christ’s sacrifice, observed with reverence and love until His return (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

EVANGELISM AND MISSIONS

Every believer and church has the duty and privilege to make disciples of all nations, sharing the gospel by word and lifestyle (Matthew 28:19-20).

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

We believe the Holy Spirit continues to distribute spiritual gifts to believers for the common good and building up of the church. These gifts include prophecy, healing, tongues, and more, operating under scriptural order and love (1 Corinthians 12–14). We affirm the “afterglow” experience—the joyous, empowering presence of the Spirit after a fresh filling—that encourages and strengthens believers for ministry.

LAST THINGS

We believe in the personal, visible, premillennial return of Jesus Christ. This includes:

  • The Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church, where believers meet Christ in the air before the tribulation (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

  • The seven-year Tribulation judgment on the earth (Daniel 9:27).

  • The Second Coming of Christ to establish His millennial kingdom (Revelation 20:1-6).

  • The resurrection and eternal judgment of the righteous and wicked (Revelation 20:11-15).

  • The eternal state of blessing for believers in Heaven and separation for the lost in Hell (Revelation 21-22).

HEAVEN AND HELL

We believe in literal Heaven and Hell. Those trusting in Christ will live eternally with God. Those rejecting salvation will endure eternal separation from God (John 3:18; Matthew 25:31-46).

SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE

Human life is sacred and created in God’s image from conception through natural death. We oppose abortion, euthanasia, and any acts that devalue life (Psalm 139).

MARRIAGE, GENDER, AND SEXUALITY

We believe God created each person as male or female, designed for marriage as a lifelong union between one man and one woman. Sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage alone. We oppose all forms of sexual immorality but affirm God’s offer of redemption and restoration to all who repent (Genesis 1:27; Matthew 19:4-6; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
