Detailed Description
SPECIAL EVENTS HELPER SERVICE DESCRIPTION
As a member of this team you will jump in as needed for special events such as fundraisers, parties, and service projects. Depending on past participation, this role will usually be behind-the-scenes practical helps. You may also be asked to substitute as a classroom helper on occasion. This is perfect for anyone who would like to help the ministry, but can’t commit to regular service, doesn’t mind being behind the scenes, or maybe isn’t as confident directly working with the youth.
KITCHEN HELPER SERVICE DESCRIPTION
As a member of this team you will arrive early to set up tables, prepare snacks, and set up a beverage station. After the kids eat, you will put away supplies and clean the kitchen. You are not required to stay throughout the full event.
CLASSROOM HELPER SERVICE DESCRIPTION
As a member of this team you will arrive early, help with final set-up, and check in with the teacher about the plan for the night. As youth arrive, you will focus on building connections. This can include playing games, initiating conversations, etc. During game time you will work alongside the teacher as needed. This may include keeping score, helping keep kids involved in the activity, correcting behavior, or playing the game as well. During class you will do many of these same roles as well as participating in discussions.
As a classroom helper, it is important to remember that your role is to support the efforts of the teacher. Reading the lesson notes and checking in prior to class is vital in order for you to be an effective helper. Most of the time, you will be working from the back, allowing the teacher to direct the flow of the lesson and conversation. When groups break into discussion groups, this is your opportunity to really add your thoughts to the mix, help guide those who are struggling to make connections, and understand how the kids are thinking about the topic so you can better speak into their lives.
TEACHER SERVICE DESCRIPTION
To become a member of this team, you will need to first serve as a classroom helper. You must understand the dynamics of who we are and how we do things here. As you grow into that position and have a handle on how our program works, you may want to step into a teaching role. This will begin by being a fill-in, then becoming a more regular contributor with time.
We have found that to be an effective part of this team, you MUST have relationships with the kids. For this reason, we require that anyone who would like to be a teacher serve twice a month as part of our team. This may require that you serve as a teacher once a month, while the second time may be as a classroom helper or at a special event.
The heart of this ministry...
Our youth group is first & foremost a Bible study. We train our youth how to study the Word and apply it to their lives. We use an inductive method of study, taking the youth through a book of the Old and New Testaments each year. We took our first mission trip in Spring of 2025, with a goal of participating in a state-side and international mission trip each year. This school year we will be going to Costa Rica in January and Willow, Alaska in March.
It’s not all about learning and serving, though. We recognize that community is a pivotal part of living a Christian life. We work to build community among our youth by playing games, having parties, hosting small-group hangouts, and mid-week Bible Studies. We use table groups to promote discussion during study, and have the youth share testimonies and prayer requests. This group is open to all 6th-12th graders throughout the community, regardless of where (or if) their family worships on a weekly basis.
