Detailed Description
Kids’ Ministry has two roles: classroom helpers and teachers. Our nursery is run by 2-3 helpers each week and is in a childcare format. Once a child is three years old, they are divided into small classes by age/grade, each needing a classroom helper and a teacher. No prior experience is needed, but you must serve as a helper before moving into a teaching position.
SERVICE DESCRIPTION
Helpers
Classroom helpers should read through the curriculum prior to class so that they are well-equiped to participate during class. They should check in with their teacher before service begins whenever possible to hear a brief rundown of the plan, and find out how they can best help during class.
Each week helpers will do things like serve a snack, pass out resources, and help with behavior management. In younger classes the helper may assist with craft projects or games, while in older classes, the helper will participate in classroom discussions.
Helpers may be asked to pray, help present the seven basic truths, or lead a small group discussion with the questions/discussion prompts provided in our curriculum. All helpers must stay until all kids have been picked up and the classroom is packed up and cleaned.
Teachers
Each week you will be provided with curriculum for this week’s lesson. It contains a study for you, the scripture we’re teaching in both video and story form, craft or game ideas, discussion prompts, life applications, and Bible literacy resources. While we provide the framework and have specific portions we ask you to do each week, you will prayerfully chose which activities to use or find ones that better work with your teaching style. During class you will instruct the students, and utilize your helper to execute your lesson plan.
Calvary will provide all the craft/game supplies and the snack.
The heart of this ministry...
Jesus loved the little children, and at Calvary, we do, too. It’s something that our whole hearts are in. We’ve striven to create a unified program that will take our littlest babies and pave the way for them to one day become active participants in the life and ministry at Calvary. We have custom-tailored a curriculum to meet the hearts of the kids at Calvary, using unified language throughout all age groups that can be carried into the home, and planted deeply within the hearts of our children to call upon now and later when life gets difficult. All of our children learn the same lesson at different levels, allowing parents to more easily discuss the lesson at home and find real-life applications. We are in the process of further developing our program to help parents better disciple their children. It’s a very exciting time to be part of Kids’ Ministry at Calvary!
This is an area of ministry that is fun and silly (and occasionally frustrating), but has lifetime significance for the children we serve.
